ArtAbility enables people to express ideas through art
ArtAbility was developed to provide options and opportunities for artists enrolled in the Marimor Adult Services program. These individuals express their ideas and vision through art and raise community awareness, participation, and volunteerism.
The idea for ArtAbility began in 2007 after collaborating with the Mental Health and Recovery Board on a quilt called Caterpillar Garden. Inspired by the outcome of this project, being encouraged by clients and seeing art-based programs around the state, staff members began making contacts throughout the community seeking out possible partners for a new creation: ArtAbility.
The studio has proven to be an exciting and successful venture for the Marimor Adult Services. It has helped promote the idea of choice and program alternatives for the people served. Each person works, but in a more artistic and creative setting. The studio focuses on developing and promoting creativity and expression in people with disabilities. During Artibility each person works on their own, independent projects and all artwork is available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting the artist. Artists can also be contracted to work on specific projects.
